“Olivia” Waldorf Doll Work In Progress Wednesdays #5

Olivia doll

It seems that since Olivia has found a name and a face, she is already getting herself into mischief!  I found her today, still unstitched at the shoulders and neck, hair unfinished, playing with the yarn I used for her hair cap!

I used black mohair yarn and crocheted a hair cap as a foundation for the hairstyle for little Olivia.  I’m still playing with her hair style and texture though.  I want little Olivia to look like my sweet pea from China and the mohair is a bit too rough to depict her super silky hair.  So I’m trying the cap out of mohair and the hair out of a yarn which is a silk and bamboo blend.  It’s the closest yard equivalent to the same texture as her hair and it feels awesome!

I took a photo here of the yarn ball I’m working from and one of my super cool new tools.  For Christmas I received a set of Crochet Lite crochet hooks.  They are supposed to help you crochet in low light and I’ve found them super helpful working on the mohair for Olivia’s hair as well as the black shawl I’m currently working on (see WIPW #4).  I hope to finish off her hair by this FO Friday and then start working on her clothes in the next week or two!
